Are you stressed out and feel overwhelmed, and don't know how to relieve stress? At Sparko Sweets, our mission is to make people happier and we've come up with some positive ways to relieve stress.
Exercising produces endorphins, which are chemicals released by your brain that acts as natural painkillers. Doing some physical work also reduces the stress hormones, cortisol. Both of these help with sleep. Confidence is a natural byproduct of exercising as it makes you look and feel better.
A 20-minute light jog 3-5 times a week could help tremendously in regulating stress levels.
Meditation is clearing your mind and focusing on one thing. This could be your breath or some mantra. Science has shown that it may change the neural pathways in our minds, and we can become more resilient to stress. It's like training a muscle in our brain to hold focus better and not be swayed by distractions.
Meditating a couple of minutes a day could relieve stress significantly. Here is a simple routine:
- Find a comfortable area that's quiet.
- Sit up straight with feet crossed and hands together in your lap. You can also lie down as well.
- Close your eyes and focus on the sensation of breathing. Feel the air going in, lung expanding, air going out, and lung contracting.
- It's normal to have distractions come. Don't be disturbed by that. Just let the distractions go as they come.
3. Take a Deep Breath
Taking a deep breath will help us slow down and could be used as a quick way to relieve stress in situations that might have thrown us off. When there is an unpleasant surprise in our days, we become very anxious and stressed. We may lose control of our senses and make a bad decision. We should refrain from making on-the-spot decisions when our minds are clouded as the repercussions could be damaging.
Taking a deep breath and focusing on the sensations of the breath acts as a shortened form of meditation. It clears our mind and we can make a better choice. It is also good to recite a mantra that is calming, such as, "Everything is going to be ok."
4. Be Present
Being mindful of the present is a great way to break out of negative thoughts. Negativity is made up in our heads. If we don't regulate it, the negativity will control us and spin us down a downward spiral. Being present is to see everything that we have in front of us as it is. Recognizing what we have is also a great way to appreciate and show gratitude for the life we have. This will combat all the anxiety and stress-inducing imaginations of all that will go wrong in the future, which usually doesn't come true.
5. Writing it Down
Journaling all your thoughts is an effective way to relieve stress. When you're writing, your mind is focused on the act and this stops the mind from wandering into thoughts that will increase stress and anxiety. Also, the act of jotting down your thoughts is cathartic in taking out the negative thoughts.
Find a notebook and start jotting down every single thing that your mind is thinking of. It doesn't have to be grammatically correct. It just needs to come out onto the piece of paper. When you're done, you'll feel much better. A lot of times, after writing the thoughts down, you'll see that it wasn't that big of a deal as your mind had thought it was.
